Air transport connects people and economies worldwide, making technical advancements essential to its development. The herewith diploma work specifically analyses innovations and projects in air transport that focus on sustainable development for the purposes of pollution reduction and competitive growth of air transport. Innovations play a crucial role in the air transport as advanced technologies can improve passenger safety, contribute to efficiency, enhance the passenger experience, contribute to more efficient global connectivity and help to reduce costs and emissions.
This diploma project is organized into five chapters. The introductory part introduces the reader to the chosen research topic. This is followed by a second chapter, which provides a general overview of air transport, covering the history of aviation, types of aircraft, air transport infrastructure and air freight units. The third chapter examines air transport operations within the European Union (EU) and Slovenia. An analysis of the volume of passenger and cargo traffic is carried out for both Slovenia and the EU. The key part of the diploma project is represented by the fourth chapter, as it covers a survey of more modern projects carried out in 2023, under the EU financial umbrella, and the guidelines for further development in the field of air transport. An analysis of ten projects, classified into two groups, was carried out. The first group focused on long term solutions for sustainable development, and the second group is oriented towards all the projects that can help improve the competitive advantage of air traffic. In conclusion, the findings of the research are given.
