The modern work environment, especially a competitive one, faces the increasing challenge of stress and its impact on employee well-being. Whilst a competitive working environment is often designed to increase the performance and success of the organization, it can also lead to emotional exhaustion, interpersonal conflict and reduced motivation. Stress arises from the pressure to achieve targets, unrealistic plans and deadlines and from complimenting colleagues.
In the theoretical part of the master's thesis, we defined the most important terms – stress, well-being, competition, environment, culture, climate and effects on the individual and the team. In the empirical part, we examined the perspectives of employees in the organization on stress and well-being in a competitive work environment. Our research showed that while competition can motivate some individuals, it often leads to increased stress and decreased co-operation among employees. Most employees emphasize the importance of promoting mental health, setting clear goals and fostering a work culture that values not only performance but also employee wellbeing.
