In the theoretical part of the thesis, I mention the difference between biological and social gender and gender awareness in early childhood. I continue by describing the meaning of gender in childhood and explain how gender roles develop in a social context. I mention Bandura's theory of social learning and I also present the learning of gender roles. I continue with gender roles in the preschool period and describe the process of children's perception of gender permanence. I also present the meaning of stereotypes and describe their various functions in society. I continue with the role of gender in children's play and explain the stereotyping of children's toys. I continue the thesis with empirical research in which I conduct interviews with preschool teachers. By analyzing interviews and theoretical research, I try to answer my research questions, which lead towards researching children's gender role perceptions, children's stereotyping and children's play, and planning activities according to gender.
