Welding is a technological process of permanently joining materials, in which two or more components are combined using heat, pressure or a combination of both. The friction stir welding (FSW) process belongs to solid-state welding and is especially suitable for materials that are difficult to weld using conventional methods. Based on existing literature and prior knowledge, we designed a generalized numerical model that is based on the coupled Euler-Lagrange method. We performed several thermo-mechanical analyses with various input parameters in the Abaqus software environment. During the model design, we used mass scaling, which proved to be effective in improving computational performance. The simulation results were comparable to data from existing journals.
