The purpose of the master's thesis titled Integration of experimental work in Science lessons in
first five grades, is to explore to what extent primary teachers use experimental work in subject
Environment Studies (from first to third grade) and Science and Technology (fourth and fifth
grade) concerning natural science content. In what natural science topics, according to the
curricula of the two subjects, more or less, in which form experimental works appears more
often (as demonstration or independent student work) and where teachers identify obstacles to
incorporate experimental work in teaching science content at primary level. The theoretical part
includes an overview of existing theories and researches on teaching and active lesson, Science
lesson, advantages of experimental work in teaching science content, guidelines for teaching
science content from both curricula and the role of teachers in experimental work. In the
empirical part there is an analysis of teacher's answers who teach Environmental Studies and
Science and Technology provided by online survey. The final aim is to contribute to a higher
quality of teaching and consequently achieving better quality and permanent knowledge of
science content among students.
