The Realization of the Ethical Potential of Selected Slovenian and Foreign Novels from the 20th Century
The master's thesis explores the impact of four narratively diverse novels (Brave New World, Filio ni doma, Beloved, Črni dnevi in beli dan) on the reader's ethics. The analysis of the narratives in these literary works demonstrates that multiple types of ethical components (propositional, guiding, and open) can coexist within a single text. The study also presents the process of determining the dominant component and the factors influencing its type. An analysis of readers' ethical responses, gathered through a survey questionnaire, illustrates how the ethical components within the examined novels affect three areas of ethical potential: the sense of the possible, the sense of development and consolidation of identity, and the sense of understanding and tolerance. The research shows that, despite the ethically sensitive content, high-quality literary works have a largely positive impact on the adult reflective reader.
