Introduction: Some believe that footwear is the biggest risk factor for running injuries. This belief has led many manufacturers to create footwear that conforms to the morphology of the runner's foot, thereby providing comfort and reducing the risk of injury. There are many variations of running shoes on the market that are said to provide comfort and anatomical fit to the runner's foot. Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to review professional and scientific literature on the topic of running shoes. In addition, the purpose is to determine what solutions, given the specific characteristics of the feet of client E.V., are offered by workers in specialized stores selling sports footwear. Methods: A search for professional and scientific literature was conducted in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases. We visited 12 specialized sports footwear stores in Škofja Loka, Kranj, and Ljubljana. Using a questionnaire, we determined how the salespeople would measure the feet, which footwear they would offer, what advice they would give, and whether they would recommend a visit to a doctor. Results: The study involved 10 respondents. Most salespeople claim to take foot measurements during consultations. Most stores use manual measuring devices, while some use digital scanners. More than half of the respondents believe that selling customized sports shoes does not require proper education. Half of the respondents could not answer the question of what type of shoe they would recommend to a customer with excessive pronation. Nevertheless, the majority answered that when visiting a customer with specific problems, they recommend a visit to a doctor. Discussion and conclusion: Taking foot measurements is not yet an established practice, but depends on the commitment of the individual seller. The measurement methods used by sellers vary considerably. No orthotist or prosthetist was employed in any store. Nevertheless, the majority of salespeople believe that they can contribute to the deterioration of the customer's health by providing incorrect advice. Most of the respondents are aware that they do not have the appropriate knowledge when it comes to specific foot problems.
