This master’s thesis explores the professional competencies of future and practicing primary school teachers, their attitudes, and the use of various musical activities in teaching music education in the first and second cycle of primary education.
The research is both qualitative and quantitative. For the qualitative part, I used interviews, while for the quantitative part, an online survey was conducted. The sample included fourth-year undergraduate students and first-year master's
students of primary education at the Faculty of Education, University of Ljubljana (hereinafter: Faculty of Education UL), as well as primary school teachers with less (up to 5 years) and more (over 10 years) teaching experience.
The research findings highlighted the attitudes of future and practicing primary school teachers toward their self-assessment of professional competence for teaching music education in the first and second cycles of primary education. They also provided a basis for further updates to study programs, professional development programmes, and teacher training courses.
