Ferromagnetic ferrofluid is a special type of liquid that retains ferromagnetic properties even in the absence of magnetic field. As part of this master's thesis, I investigated the response of a suspension of ferromagnetic ferrofluid to a disturbance caused by magnetic field. Changing the voltage on the coil caused the changes in arrangement of the ferromagnetic particles in the suspension. Because the suspensions in the nematic phase are birefringent, it was possible to study the the changes in magnetic ordering by polarized optical microscope. Experiments were first conducted in the presence of the Earth's field and in zero field condition in which the Earth's magnetic field was compensated.
