This BA thesis delves into the design and creation of stylized characters, such as those often
found in comics and animated projects – characters that do not adhere to the principles of
realistic anatomy but instead rely on more abstract and symbolic modes of expression. I will
define and analyse common methods that contribute to creating characters that leave a lasting
impression on the viewer, as well as explain the significance of design through the symbolism
of colours, shapes, and cultural influences. In the practical segment of this BA thesis, I will
create four characters, whose designs will follow the design theories discussed throughout the
work. Additionally, I will create a fanzine about character design, containing an abbreviated,
layman-friendly version of this BA thesis, along with a short comic in which the previously
designed characters express their personalities in accordance with their design.
