In this master’s thesis, we investigated how the citizens of the Municipality of Ljubljana, the Municipality of Ig, and the Municipality of Škofljica are satisfied with various environmental protection factors. Through an online survey, we gathered information on the satisfaction of citizens in the three selected municipalities concerning environmental protection factors such as water quality, air quality, noise pollution, waste management, and sustainable mobility. Based on professional documentation, a review of municipal environmental reports, and the results of the online survey conducted among the citizens, we found that citizens in all three municipalities consider sustainable mobility to be the most significant issue. They are most satisfied with the supply of drinking water, followed by satisfaction with air quality, waste management, and noise pollution.
According to the respondents, sustainable mobility is an important factor that municipalities should prioritise. While respondents are generally dissatisfied with the environmental protection activities of their respective municipalities, they are not overly concerned with environmental issues. However, they are relatively willing to sacrifice their standard of living to protect the environment.
We also compared satisfaction with air quality and noise pollution in the three selected Slovenian municipalities and ten foreign cities from the research. The citizens of the Municipality of Ig, Škofljica, and Helsinki were the most satisfied with air quality. In terms of noise pollution, citizens in the selected municipalities were, on average, most satisfied in the Municipality of Ig, Helsinki, and Graz. On average, the least satisfied were citizens in Skopje, both with air quality and noise pollution.
