Lendava was connected to the main centres of the Austro-Hungarian Empire by a railway built in 1890. This marked the economic and cultural development of the town and the beginning of the bourgeois era. However, after the turbulent period of the two World Wars, Lendava's rail link with Hungary was severed in the middle of the 20th century. Following Slovenia's independence, it became an isolated point in the Slovenian rail network. In the master thesis, we first used Geographic Information System tools to identify potential railway connections between Lendava and Beltinci. This connection could stimulate the use of public passenger transport in the Municipality of Lendava and other municipalities along the route, thereby strengthening sustainable mobility in the Mura Statistical Region. Furthermore, we conducted interviews with representatives of relevant institutions and surveyed the local population. Both groups agreed that the re-establishment of the rail link would bring more positive than negative impacts to the region and therefore expressed support for its construction.
