In my thesis I researched the dialectal hop-production terminology of the local speech of Ponikva pri Žalcu. The town is located on the northern edge of the Lower Savinja Valley in the Municipality of Žalec and serves as the central point of the Ponikovski Kras nature park. The local speech belongs to the Central Savinja dialect of the Styrian dialect group. At the core of the thesis is a concordance-style dialectal vocabulary of hop-production terminology, created from a phonetic transcription of a recorded interview with an informant using the guided conversation method. The dialectal thematic vocabulary consists of terms for hop-growing tools, equipment, designations for people, traditional dishes, and other dialectal expressions. The terminology collected in the vocabulary is mostly derived from the German language. The region’s rich hop-growing heritage and the documentation of the local speech were the main driving forces behind the creation of this thesis.
