This master thesis analyses metaphor translation strategies in translations and interpretations of Eng-lish speech into Slovene using the EPTIC-SI intermodal corpus. The two main research questions were: how time pressure affect the transfer of metaphors, and which mode of transfer (translation or interpretation) results in metaphors that are closer to the original. The metaphors in the analysis are divided into thematic sets of construction terms and parts of the human body, and examined in terms of frequency of retention of the original metaphor, changes and transfer strategies. The results show that translation allows for a more consistent transfer of metaphors, while time pressure during interpreting leads to quicker solutions such as literal translation, omission or condensation. The thesis contributes to the development of the Slovenian EPTIC-SI corpus as well as offers insights into the differences between translation and interpretation strategies that are relevant for both theory and practice.
