In this Diploma Thesis economic integration in Southeast Asia, especially integration of Cambodia into ASEAN (Cambodia as a case study) was studied. In the global economy, several regional trading blocs have been established (e.g. European Union, ASEAN, BRICS). Cambodia is one of those countries that belongs to the most dynamic and diverse region of Southeast Asia. Regionalism is deepening here, and regional free trade agreements are increasingly competitive, tensions over control of maritime territory and historical circumstances are still present. Economic situation is influenced by a number of factors: financial crises, energy self-sufficiency and independence, climate change, food security, migration, the emergence of new technologies. In a globalized world, many countries are aware of the importance of national identity, which brings many challenges for the future. This case study was focused on Cambodia, examining its regional integration within ASEAN. A comparative analysis between economic integration in Europe and Southeast Asia has been made.
