When supplying electrical and electronic equipment to global markets, manufacturers are increasingly facing rallying challenges regarding international standardization and safety requirements. In addition, manufacturers are also faced with additional requirements emanating from individual national certification bodies.
Products, where these requirements are usually very complex, are power supplies designed for installation or direct connection to the mains. It is for this reason that I have chosen such a product and will describe its testing in my thesis. Within the scope of my job, I have carried out the entire testing procedure of an industrial switching power supply intended for installation. The testing was carried out in accordance with the requirements of European and international standards.
I have described the whole testing flow based on this example, from determining the right standard and identifying possible points in the standard, to including additional requirements from the power supply manufacturer. I also described the actual requirements of the standard and showed the measurement results that I obtained on my concrete example.
As part of my work, I have also explained the very specifics of product certification and testing activities. I also described the requirements of the IEC 61010-1 standard, which I used for the test and also introduced the international IECEE CB certification scheme. Issued IECEE CB test reports and test certificates allowed the manufacturer to enter the global market and thus to continue the production of power supplies. The measurement results and the report, that I have prepared, served as the basis for all further procedures.
In addition to the described techniques and methods, and the prior knowledge of the technical performance of the tests, I have looked into the issue of international standardization, which is increasingly being faced by manufacturers of electrical and electronic equipment.
