Introduction: Performing laboratory tests at the patient's bedside is a method for obtaining laboratory results that contributes to faster patient care, as it avoids sending samples to the laboratory. Laboratory tests at the bedside are primarily carried out by nurses who must be properly trained for this task. When performing bedside laboratory tests, attention must be paid to the accuracy and reliability of the obtained results and the proper quality of the tests.Purpose: The aim of this thesis is to determine and investigate the safety of healthcare and the implementation of laboratory tests at the patient’s bedside Methods: In this thesis, we used a descriptive method with a systematic literature review. The review of domestic and foreign literature will be conducted in the following databases: Cobiss, Pub Med, Google Scholar, and Cinahl. The inclusion criteria are: peer-reviewed articles, publication between 2014 and 2024, freely accessible full-text sources. The exclusion criteria: POCT in the pediatric population. Results: Tests performed at the patient's bedside have their advantages and disadvantages. The focus is on obtaining rapid test results, which leads to faster patient care. The disadvantages are related to the POCT operator and potential errors in analysis. Quality measures highlight the implementation of quality controls and the organization of POCT operators. Discussion and conclusion: The use of POCT is increasing due to its ease of use, rapid results, and greater accessibility in healthcare. Despite the advantages, there are challenges related to the accuracy of analyzers, staff training, and quality assurance. Successful implementation of POCT requires good organization and regular quality monitoring.
