The article compares two basic works of lexicography describing new vocabulary in Slovenia and the Czech Republic (Slovar novejšega besedja slovenskega jezika and Nová slova v češtině. Slovník neologizmů). Both books study the vocabulary from the same reference period and apply a similar method of analysis to individual headwords, i.e. both works introduce a similar structure of dictionary entries. Common lexemes of the examined thesaurus described in both books consist of internationalisms, i.e. words adopted from foreign languages. Other denominations are directly related to phenomena or facts present solely in a specific linguistic or geographic environment (with regard to the Czech Republic, Slovakia or Czechoslovakia; and for Slovenia, the countries of former Yugoslavia).
