In my thesis I will write about the relationship between tragedy and comedy, referring to Samuel Beckett's play Waiting for Godot. In addition to the main question, I will also touch upon some other aspects of comedy, most of which can be found in the play in order to make the connection easier. I will also look at the definition of Waiting for Godot as a tragicomedy, which in my opinion does not fit this genre definition and is above all a comedy in a special relationship with tragedy. I will also comment on the question of whether this case is a comedy of the absurd. I will also address the more general question of tragedy in a time that is perhaps distinctly untragic, and what the possibilities are for comedy in a time where we are constantly subjected to the compulsion of being entertained and amused.
