The topic of the master’s thesis is the revitalization of the functionally degraded area of the former Steklarska nova in Rogaška Slatina. Glassmaking is deeply rooted in the identity of Rogaška Slatina and its surroundings. The development of the craft dates back to the 17th century, when the need for bottles for filling mineral water began to arise. The former Glazutes were replaced by Steklarna Rogaška, and over time by Steklarska nova, which was initially intended for the practical education of young glassmakers, but later grew into a smaller glass production, where many well-known designers participated. It closed its doors after bankruptcy in 2009, and the facility has been stagnant ever since. The space belongs to the functionally degraded area, which prevents the development of the adjacent building, which houses the School Center Rogaška Slatina (ŠCRS), where, among other things, young glassmakers are educated. The revitalization of the area in question is based on the renovation of the existing building of the former Steklarska nova and the conversion of the former parking lot into a park arrangement with a pavilion. The renovation of the existing building foresees the placement of a new program in the direction of creating a creative laboratory in which all users would research, educate themselves and create. In this part, the construction of a pavilion is also planned, which serves not only as an inviting entry point to the space in question, but also for the purposes of promoting glassmakers’ products and intergenerational socializing.
