The thesis aimed to investigate the use of digital technologies among preschool children, and
in the process of research answer the following questions - which digital technologies do
preschool children use; how do parents cope with the regulation of these technologies; how are
different parenting styles related to different parental mediation strategies in the use of digital
technologies, and what is their knowledge of the guidelines in this area and the parents' attitude
towards them. The research was conducted in two phases - the first phase consisted of
questionnaires to identify parents' parenting styles, and the second phase consisted of in-depth
interviews with three selected pairs of parents, each representing a different parenting style.
This led us to important conclusions, which revealed that preschool children are primarily
exposed to television; that permissive parenting style leads to increased exposure to digital
technologies; that guidelines on appropriate screen use are still relatively unknown, and that
parents of preschool children most often use restrictive mediation strategies.
