In the past, animals have taken on different roles, from means of transport to food or family pets. Understanding animals as living beings and the impact they have on children's awareness, with an emphasis on the importance of a pedagogical approach to promote the correct and responsible treatment of animals and to eliminate prejudices, is very important when working with children. In this context, educators have a key role to play in reducing violence against animals by teaching children about respect, responsibility and coexistence with animals, which is particularly relevant in the light of frequent reports of animal torture in the media.
We investigated to what extent, in what different ways and which animals are actively involved in the educational process in kindergartens and how children and parents are involved. Methods. We obtained quantitative data using the survey technique and qualitative data through interviewing.The study also showed the important role that animals play in the educational process of pre-school children. Establishing a strong legal basis for animal ownership is crucial in the educational process. This would protect educators and management and facilitate the inclusion of live animals in the education system while respecting clear guidelines and standards.
