Introduction:Since 2015, emergency centres have been established as part of the secondary level of care. When patients visit an emergency centre, nurses are the first point of contact with the patient. Due to the increasing prevalence of cardiac rhythm disorders in the population, the training of registered nurses in the emergency department is crucial to identify and treat cardiac rhythm disorders more quickly, and to reduce mortality rates. Purpose: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the level of knowledge of registered nurses regarding the recognition of cardiac rhythm disturbances in the emergency department. Methods; The theoretical part was based on descriptive method of work with systematic review and scientific literature with inclusion and exclusion criteria. The quantitative method of data collection was used in the research work. It was based on an anonymous questionnaire, which was addressed to the registered nurses of the Urgent Care Centre of the General Hospital Murska Sobota. Results: 31 respondents were included in the survey. Among the visitors to the Urgent Care Centre, the staff very often encounter patients with heart rhythm disorders. They point out that the most frequently encountered cardiac disorder is atrial fibrillation. The nurses' knowledge of how to identify cardiac rhythm disturbances from electrocardiogram and telemetry recordings could be described as satisfactory. Discussion and conclusion: By improving and sharing knowledge and information, respondents and other staff can improve and refine their level of knowledge. It is important to realise that good quality and safe work in the emergency department requires a sufficient level of knowledge and awareness in the recognition of abnormal heart rhythms, which can often be crucial in the management of patients at risk.
