One of the goals of the Communication in Slovene project is the compilation ofa reference corpus of spoken Slovene. The paper describes the rationale for material collection which focuses on demographic and text genre criteria. The basic speaker vs. text genre ratios will be described, which in the opinion ofthe authors ensure that the referential and balanced character of the spokencorpus is maintained within the limits of the project framework.
