At the department of Slavic Philology at the Moscow State University of M.V. Lomonosov Slovene Studies has been one of the specialisations for almost forty years. In addition to Slovene language, students study Slovene cultural history, literature and literary criticism, get acquainted with the works of well-known Slovene authors and study features of literary trends. In one first year semester they take the course "History of Slovene culture"; the studying of Slovene literature begins in the second year with early literature; in the third year students look at the 19th century; in the four that 20th century authors; and in the fifth year they attend lectures on "History of Slovene literary criticism".
