The United Nations is an international organisation whose work is based on the development of international law to promote international peace, security and respect for human rights. The organisation carries out its work through various working bodies. The body responsible for monitoring respect for human rights within the United Nations is the Human Rights Council.
The thesis discusses Slovenia’s activities in international relations and its priorities in the context of cooperation in the United Nations Human Rights Council. The aim is to learn about the work of the international organisation of the UN through the analysis of literature and through the analysis of interviews, and to determine the success of Slovenia’s work in foreign policy, more specifically in international organisations, with an emphasis on Slovenia’s activities in the UN Human Rights Council.
Taking into account the findings on the basis of read materials and interviews with experts, the work describes the development of Slovenia’s foreign policy priorities since the accession to the United Nations in 1992 and the reason why the priorities have changed or adapted since. The work also outlines possible changes and improvements Slovenia could make in order to improve its performance in international relations.
