Environmental protection is an activity aimed at protection and conservation of the environment and has always been considered an important social factor. Only with the appropriate policy of environmental protection against natural and other disasters can protection of humans, animals, property and cultural heritage be ensured, and it also enables the strengthening of capacity for comprehensive management of natural and other disasters, covering prevention, readiness, accidents action, providing basic provision of living and renewing. The City Municipality of Krško, which lies in the Posavje statistical region, shows a diverse representation of different industries, and as one of the largest advantages of the Posavje economy the field of energy must be highlighted, which can also potentially represent one of the largest environmental pollutants. In order to take action with the occurrence of natural or other disasters and protection against them, and with the aim of protecting human and material resources, which can be used in managing danger and protection of threats, the City Municipality of Krško adopted in 2019 a program for protection against natural and other disasters in the municipality Krško for 2019 – 2024. Also, due to the presence of the Krško Nuclear Power Plant in the municipality, the City Municipality of Krško has also been preparing and updating an assessment of the threats in the event of a nuclear or radiological accident in the City Municipality of Krško, which presents the basis for the preparation of the municipal protection and rescue plan in the event of a nuclear or radiological accident in the City Municipality of Krško.
