In my thesis, I discuss the motif of refugees in children's picture books. I will analyze in more detail The Frog and the Stranger by Max Velthuijs.
The diploma thesis is divided into two parts, a theoretical and an empirical part. In the theoretical part, I presented the definitions of children's literature, as well as its origins. I described the importance of illustrations in children's picture books, the types of illustrations according to Marija Nikolajeva and the modern fairy tale according to Marjana Kobe.
In the empirical part, I analyzed the picture book Frog and Stranger by Max Velthuijs, according to the theory of the modern fairy tale by Marjana Kobe. I was interested in how the literary character of the refugee is presented, as well as how children see the literary character of the refugee. Based on this, I conducted research in the kindergarten and added the interpretation to the spreadsheet.
