Following the known synthetic procedures, two zinc(II) ammine coordination compounds, [Zn(NH3)4](BF4)2 and [Zn(NH3)4](PF6)2, were prepared. Reactions of [Zn(NH3)4]2+ with quinaldinic acid in aqueous ammonia has afforded [Zn(quin)2(NH3)], a compound that contains coordinated quinaldinate and ammonia. Analogous reactions of [Zn(NH3)4]2+ with picolinic acid have afforded an already known [Zn(pic)2(H2O)3)]∙2H2O, a complex with coordinated picolinate and water. Similar reaction with pyrazinoic acid has produced a mixture of [Zn(pyraz)2(H2O)2] and [Zn(pyraz)2(H2O)]. Selected ammine complexes have been reacted with acetonitrile at ambient conditions. Only in the case of [Zn(quin)2(NH3)], a reaction of ammonia with acetonitrile has been undoubtely confirmed. The latter reaction produces acetamidine.
