The MA thesis explores a varied literary oeuvre of Minka Krvina, which includes poems, sketches, short stories and tales, as in long short stories resembling a novel. Her works express many characteristics of the rural story genre, since they portray relationships among the cottagers and rich farmers, among the farmers and the industrial workers, and paint the farmer’s strong bond with the soil which enslaves them with its demands, often claiming their youth, health and affections in the process. Minka Krvina’s works are strongly affected by her personal life and show the suffering of the exploited people with no voice of their own and the hardships of women toiling on farms. She sheds light on the issues of women’s inequality and their disadvantages in the society. Apart from the rural and social themes, her works also include love, war and post-war topics. Minka Krvina’s poems often deal with existential crisis, pain and disappointment metaphorically represented by the flower petals falling off, and criticise the unjust social reality.
