Bartol's novel Alamut is a work of Slovene literature which has achieved great popularity in France and around the world. Due to the controversy about the first French translation of 1988, which was denounced by the writer's heirs and forensic experts as being too far from the original, a new French translation was published 24 years later. Although the second translator, Andrée Lück-Gaye, more faithfully follows the original text, in her translation there are also some deficiencies, especially semantic deviations.
