The diploma thesis analyzes Microsoft’s network storage solution Work Folders and the open-source alternative NextCloud, owned by the company Nextcloud GmbH, which is available for Microsoft Windows, Linux and Apple MacOS. These solutions are primarily focused on data storage in an on-premise environment, which is in direct contrast with the more popular cloud-based storage solution, but with similar features. The thesis aims to assess the complexity of placing and maintaining the solution, the available features and their security and reliability. An upgrade was performed to provide bigger capacities, better security, reliability and high availability for data, so it can be accessible worldwide.
