The master thesis deals with the proposals for peri-urban forest areas in the municipality of Šmartno pri Litiji. Based on the responses of citizens to an online questionnaire, a consultation with the representatives of the Slovenian Forest Service and the Municipality of Šmartno pri Litiji, the definition of the criteria for the suitability of areas for peri-urban forests and a multi-criteria analysis taking into account the different weighting of the criteria, a proposal for the area of peri-urban forests was made. The proposal includes two major areas, namely the area near the settlement of Šmartno pri Litiji, between the settlements of Slatna and Jeze, and the area around Bogenšperk Castle. It is recognised that forests are an important recreational space for citizens, and their needs are also acknowledged by the representatives of the Slovenian Forest Service and the Municipality. The proposal for peri-urban forest areas close to the city serves as a guideline and tool for future spatial planning, but more detailed analysis and the involvement of all stakeholders in the decision-making process are still needed for comprehensive planning.
