The sea brings us many new opportunities - the development of coastal towns and the industry that is connected to the sea. However, it can also represent an obstacle - the rising sea levels, many coastal towns are in flood danger.
The collapse of the industry at the Slovenian coast created many degraded areas and infrastructure that used to have a rich cultural history have been slowly declining for the past two decades.
Degraded urban areas present us with an opportunity for an internal development and the rejuvenation of old town centers. Furthermore, architectural and urban solutions could be the answer to the environmental issues, that are caused by global warming.
The master thesis is a research into the topic (The degradation of industrial areas and the regeneration of these areas, it also deals with flood danger), the town and the focused area. In the thesis there are analyses of the area and opinions of the county of Izola and ZVKDS Piran. The aforementioned serves as a foundation for the concept of the development of the area.
The goal of this master thesis is the revitalization of the area that was once an industrial complex Argo (also Arrigoni, Droga) and Riba (also Degrassi) located in Izola.
The conceptual design deals with public content and the placement of a new social infrastructure in relation to the existing one. The Master thesis encompasses the urban planning of the area, that was once the industrial complex and the architectural design of cultural center. The plan also tackles and solves the problems of flooding of the focused area.
The new social center, on the edge of the old town center, completes the existing landscape and at the same time establishes a new cultural town center.
