As part of the diploma thesis, we analyzed the preparation of carbide cutting edges with
machine planetary polishing or the so-called "drag finishing" process. We studied the
microgeometry of the tool in more detail and investigated how individual parameters of the
"drag finishing" process affect the size of the rounding of the cutting edge. In the practical
part of the task, we exposed the manufactured cutting tools to various combinations of
influential parameters that affect the size of the cutting edge radius in machine planetary
polishing. With the help of the performed measurements, we evaluated the results and
described the influence of individual process parameters. We found that by increasing the
polishing time, the size of the rounding increases, but it is more intense only up to the fifth
minute of polishing. Also, the rounding increases more strongly when using a coarse
polishing medium. With the help of research, we thus increased the productivity of
production and the durability of the tools with the appropriate selection of the influencing
parameters of the cutting edge preparation process.
