What are the key differences between erotic art and pornography and what do these terms
even mean? One is being acknowledged as high-quality work, while the other struggles
with a stigma, full of distain and prejudice. In this work I will elaborate on the main
dissimilarities between the two based on art history, the historical context of each period
and status of the creative artists. The following thesis analyses some crucial art pieces
going from the prehistoric era to present day. Since most creators are male, it is inevitable
to mention the concept of the male gaze, which even today plays a big role in how we see
women and how women see themselves. In the second part, I present my own work, the
inspiration behind it and my personal views regarding the subject.
