This masters thesis explores the historical development of Rečica and the spatial heritage of the region. With a theoretical basis in anthropology of space and place and conservation and heritage studies, it provides the historical background of the development of Rečica. It also presents a more detailed analysis of two selected examples: the development of the Grimšče estate, and the Pri Krištofo homestead. Through analysis of the historical process, this thesis tries to give the main reasons and causes, the effects of human activity and the processes that shaped modern Rečica. A historical overview provides the possibility of understanding the diversity of land use, the effects of changing ownership regimes, social relations and how these have influenced the appearance of today's settlement. This can also help with the planning of interventions in the space and the protection of elements that are recognized as worth preserving. In this way, the protection of the cultural heritage itself has an important impact on the place. By examining the register of cultural heritage for the selected area, the aesthetic elements and historical periods are recognized. Through the analysis of three examples of the preservation of homesteads, the attitude of the owners towards building heritage is also analysed, which is influenced by the purpose of the buildings and living needs.
