This bachelor’s thesis includes the necessary calculations and presentation of tractive efforts for three typical locomotives used by Slovenian railways (series 541, 363, 664). The tractive effort of railroad vehicles serves as an indicator of the available traction force on the wheels of locomotives, depending on the speed of the locomotive where resistant forces that occur during the train moving are considered. A calculation of the force impulse between the train and a rolling stock was also carried out, after the data of times needed to move a rolling stock were obtained from a video recording of a train starting from a standing position.
