New Slovenian governmental ordinance on transformation of nonhazardous wastes to solid fuels has considerable impact on the use of recovered wood and wood residues for energetic purposes. This ordinance prescribes maximal concentrations for selected pollutants in wood. Therefore specimens of wood residues were collected in several Slovenian wood-manufacturing companies and concentrations of Cl, Cr, Fe, Cu, Zn, As, Br, Pb and Hg were determined using XRF. The concentration majority of the analysed elements were below prescribed maximal concentration with exception of chlorine.
