The Croatian and Slovene phoneme /v/ is described as a labiodental approximant. Apart from neutral articulation one allophonic variant [w] can be realised in Croatian and four in Slovene: [u], [u̯], [w] and [ʍ]. Using the programme Praat the sound duration, centre of gravity of spectrum, standard deviation of the centre of gravity, HNR, skewness, kurtosis, amplitude of centre of gravity and intensity of the realised phoneme /v/ were compared in a sample of words read by three female native speakers of Croatian and three of Slovene.
