The patchwork has endless number of possibilities for expressing artistic means through colour, form and meaning. Compared to foreign countries, the technique of patchwork and quilting is still quite unexplored area in Slovenia. However, it is an interesting and wonderful example of creative expression along with personal experience and emotion. The purpose of the diploma thesis is to reuse and redesign clothes that carry sentimental value into a memory patchwork and create a new product that is useful and practical in addition to preserving memories. In assignment, there is presented the production of memory patchwork in the form of a blanket – quilt, but we could also make other products in this same technique such as pillows, wall hangings or clothes. In the memory patchwork quilt, the emphasis is on the clothes from which the new patterns that form the memory patchwork quilt are carefully tailored. When designing new products, the emphasis is also on the sustainable aspect of design. The goal was to keep as little waste as possible when making memory patchwork quilts and to make full use of the clothes given to make the patchwork. It is difficult to talk about a collection of memory patchwork quilts, as each tells its own story, which differs from the others in shape, colours, materials and meaning. In addition to the clothes, which are the primary source of textiles in the memory patchwork quilt, there is also added pieces of cotton fabric from which the back of the patchwork quilt is made and the front complemented if necessary. The methods of making and elements of the memory patchwork quilt depend on the background story and the person for whom the memory patchwork is intended. The result of the diploma thesis is a memory patchwork quilt made with the patchwork, quilting and applique technique.
