My Master thesis presents research work in the field of printmaking, with the intention of exploring colour as the main artistic theme. Colour is usually the primary theme in painting, but we can thoroughly and individually examine it within the sphere of intaglio printmaking as well. In the thesis I characterize and analyze the so-called colour dimensions – the key parameters that define expression of colour. I study colour’s characteristics and present the terms chromatic agent and chromatic effect. In the empiric part I present a printmaking series called Moon time, which contains 28 monochrome coloured prints. The series is divided into five colour segments: blue, green, red, yellow, and gray. I was interested in the way intaglio affects colour appearance, how the duration of etching affects the dimensions of colour, and how important is the choice of pigment.
