Geopolitics is a strategic practice of states and a way of analysing the functioning of political communities. It deals with the mutual influences of geography on the relations of political power and political processes and, conversely, the influences of politics on geography. As a strategic practice of states, geopolitical practice is expressed primarily through war (coercion) and trade (negotiations) i.e., through geostrategy and geoeconomics, the purpose of which is to preserve and strengthen the power of the state. Today, geoeconomics plays a predominant role in achieving the geopolitical goals of states, as wars have become generally impractical. A strong economy plays both the role of carrot and stick and a measure of power in international relations. In order to successfully achieve geopolitical goals, the right strategic framework of thinking is needed, from which we design the right strategy (the path to the goal). Sun Tzu’s The Art of War is the most famous work on strategy. Although he focuses mainly on war (geostrategy), the teachings and principles of the Art of War are universal and implementation-flexible. The art of war can thus serve as a guide for designing geoeconomic strategies. The purpose of the master's thesis is to study the teachings and principles of strategic operations of the Art of War and to place them in a geoeconomic context.
