Five compounds, namely {[Cu(L)(nia)2]•H2O}n 1, {[Cu(L)(3-apy)2]•(H2L)}n 2, [(Cu(N3)(H2O))2(L)]n 3, [Cu(L)(H2O)2]n 4 and [Cu3(L)2(OH)2(H2O)4]n 5 in a system of copper(II) compounds with a coordinated anion of adipic acid (C6H10O4 = H2L) along with additional nitrogen ligand are described. The crystal structures were determined for the compounds and the matching of the experimental values with the calculated ones of the theoretical composition for each compound was determined by elemental analysis. All compounds are polymeric. Adipinate ligand herein always serves as a bridging ligand. The ligand presence is in accordance with the IR spectra. Their magnetic properties agree with Cu(II) and the electronic spectra with the compounds' colours.
