The present diploma thesis describes the legal basis for waste management in the Republic of Slovenia. The issue of waste management in nowadays becoming a more and more pressing problem as the law requirements are increasingly focused on promotion of green cities with as little waste as possible. The first chapter or the introduction describes the topic, purpose and main aims of the present thesis. In the second chapter, the waste management in the Republic of Slovenia as well as in the town Izola is presented, describing also the Ordinance on waste management in the municipality of Izola.. The third chapter includes a presentation and description of Modern IT solutions for? transport optimization that, if used correctly, can help improve company's performances and contribute to the achievement of ever-improving results. A detailed analysis of the current situation of waste collection in the municipality of Izola follows in the fourth chapter. The latter furthermore includes a presentation of the Public company Komunala Izola d. o. o., a detailed presentation of the state of waste collection and in the last part also a proposal to improve waste collection in the municipality of Izola using modern information solutions . The conclusions, based on the conducted analysis and its study as well as on personal experience from the waste management field, are presented in the last chapter of the present thesis.
