The goal of our research was to analyze the lifestyle of students at the University of Ljubljana in the period of their elementary schooling and in the period of their university studies. 603 randomly chosen students from 13 faculties of the University of Ljubljana (48,4 % men and 51,6 % women) were included in the research. The data was collected with an anonymous survey and processed with the IBM SPSS 21 statistical program. We calculated the basic statistics; the hypotheses were tested by using the hi-square and t-test at the significance level of 5 % (p ≤ 0.05)
On the average, students practice sports less days a week and less time a day than they did in the period of elementary schooling. They mostly practice running in the nature (60 %) or cycling (44,6 %). A great majority of students is stressed due to the great burden of study obligations. They sleep considerably less than in the elementary schooling period, more than one third only from 5 to 6 hours per day. 18,3 % of students are smokers; most of them started smoking in high school, only 1,7 % in elementary school. Only 5,5 % of students do not drink alcohol, which is considerably less than in the elementary school period (72,5 %). 17,7 % of students do not eat breakfast; this percentage approximately coincides with the one from the elementary schooling period. Approximately three quarters of students do not drink sweet and carbonated drinks but rater opt for water and unsweetened tea.
The lifestyle from elementary schooling period influences the lifestyle in the period of university schooling to some point, but there are many other factors due to which students neglect healthy lifestyle, even though they are well informed about it.
