Accessible tourism is a fairly new concept and, as such, not well known. Tourism has become an essential part of our lifestyles but tourism services that are accessible to all are scarce. This present master thesis explores accessible tourism in the Upper Soča Valley, focusing on people with mobility impairments. In the first part of the thesis the emphasis is on people with disabilities and their engagement in tourist activities. Moreover, the current situation in Slovenia was evaluated. On the basis of literature, interviews and field work, it was analyzed how much has been done in the Upper Soča Valley to make tourism accessible to all and what are the possibilities for improvement. The findings show that most of the tourist activities are not adjusted to people with mobility impairments with the exception of cultural sights, which include museums and exhibitions. The thesis presents suggestions on how to open the way to natural sights and sports activities for people with disabilities. With minor adjustments and keeping vulnerable groups in mind we could overcome major obstacles in tourism – the physical ones and the ones in our minds.
