The aim of the thesis is to explore how color was perceived by some of the most influential artists of the last century. In my thesis, I focus on the color theories of artists who worked at the Bauhaus art school and whose theories we still use today. I briefly present the main idea of the Blue Rider movement and mention important events in the history of the Bauhaus school. I present the essential features of the color theories of Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Johannes Itten, and Joseph Albers. After analyzing color theories, I proceed with the analysis of artists’ artwork, with the central element being color. I wonder in what way they used color in their own artwork. I continue with a brief definition of the human experience of color, and then deal with the subjective experience of color, with the help of my own artworks created during my studies. In the final part of the diploma thesis, I present works of art that were created during the writing of the thesis and are based on new perception and cognitions.
