The theoretical part of the diploma thesis focuses on the recording device tachograph, which truck drivers must use in their work. The thesis continues with a presentation of complexity of drivers’ work, the difficulties they face and the legislation governing the work of truck drivers. Drivers must strictly comply with both domestic and international legislation governing their work at home and abroad. The obligation of the employer in recording working hours is described, as well as the driver's obligations regarding breaks, rest, readiness, availability and other work, night work, daily and weekly time, etc. The empirical part presents a report of coordinated inspections of the Inspectorate of Infrastructure, the Financial Administration of the Republic of Slovenia and the Police. Further, the author presents the results of a questionnaire used to research whether changes in education and understanding of legislation are needed among truck drivers. The research conducted tried to answer the hypothesis in the Introduction of the author’s diploma thesis. The results of the research confirmed that the work of truck drivers is demanding and the introduction of digital tachographs has brought about positive changes in the way drivers conduct their work and better recording of drivers' working hours.
