Introduction: The number of people with dementia is rising with increasing numbers of people and extending life expectancy. In most cases dementia affectes older population though is not a normal part of ageing. The first signs and symptoms may apper with delay of several years, so it is important that dementia is detected and treated early. Purpose: Purpose of the diploma work is to present the role of nurse at prevention and early detec-tion of dementia, to present hers work in the conduct of screening tests and the use of rat-ing scales in people with dementia.Methods: It was used descriptive method of work with review of domestic and foreign professional and scientific literature. Literature was searched in databases Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Science Direct and COBIB.SI. In re-search for relavent literature we considerd inclusion and exclusion criterias. Additional literature was obtained by reviewing searching for acquired documents. Results: It is dis-overed that nurse has important role in reognition of risk factors for development of de-mentia and health care treatment of people with dementia. Role of nurse is also significant in collaborating at using diagnostic tools for uncovering dementia, working with other health professionals on health area and in promoting health in community. Discussion and conclusion: Nurse pays an attention on all expressed needs, problems and risk factors that person with dementia is currently having. She must include all her conclusions in care plan and based on them create interventions to solve care problems. When working with people with dementia she also includes different communication approaches that enables her to create understanding and trust in relationship. Nurse is also involved in assessing dementia and using diagnostic tools. In health promoting she advises, teaches and raises awareness about healthy lifestyle and also offers help to make changes in everyday life.
